Tim,

I want no part of Murray or Boyle. Murray had some injuries last year and Boyle will get here and do what every older FA or traded player does.......get injured or not perform.

How about Cody Franson? He is a RFA with the leafs and still unsigned. He was unhappy with his role with the team last year. Why not trade some picks to get him?

He is big, mobile, a right hand shot, and best of all..............drafted & developed by Nashville (who know a thing or 2 about Dmen)

Maybe the Flyers should include Couturier in a deal for Shae Weber.....oh wait.....anyway there is no d-man out there now that can fill the Flyers #1 need which is a #1 defenseman. The Flyers are going to be in limbo the next few seasons without a franchise defenseman or a goalie they can count on in the Playoffs. They will have a ton of cap space and no defenseman to spend it one.

They have a very good Goalie already. And there aren't any possibilities to obtain a #1 defenseman in the future?

People always need to complain about something. If they were to trade Couturier for Weber people would female dog. The only problem with this guys theory is the Predators didn't just want Couturier. They wanted B. Schenn and another piece.

The Flyers defense and goaltending are not championship caliber. I'm sure Bryzgalov will have a very good regular season next year but he is a historically poor playoff goalie and that is what counts for this team. And of course there is a possibillity of obtaining a #1 d-man in the "future", but not this year and the free agent market looks pretty thin on #1s in 2013.

You can take that historical nonsense and throw it down the drain. It doesn't mean squat! None of us know who can be obtained this year or any other year.

And you know how you find out if a team is Championship caliber? You drop the puck and play the game!

Bryzgalov is not a playoff goalie no matter what you choose to believe. The Flyers have a huge hole in goal when ghe playoffs start and an average defense in front of it. We may not know who is available but I don't see any #1 d-men becoming available any time soon.

That's a two way street. You can choose to believe that Bryzgalov is not a playoff Goalie all you want. Doesn't make it the case. Their defense is not average. They still have a solid top 4. And you don't know who is going to be on the team when the playoffs roll around. The playoffs are 9 months away.

Before 2011, Tim Thomas was not considered a "playoff" goalie. Before 2012, neither was Jon Quick. Prior to this past season, Henrik Lundqvist had never been past the second round. Bryzgalov does own the 2nd longest shutout streak in playoff history.

All it takes is getting hot at the right time. Look at Marc-Andre Fleury. Or Anti Niemi.

the flyers needed an up-and-coming puck mover last yr in preparation for the changes necessitated by age, injuries and expiring contracts. now we face the prospect of getting into the season w/ 3 top four level dmen and a bunch of third pairing types w/ varying levels of exp and potential. only L schenn realistically projects as a top 4 type.

so should homer go into the season and roll the dice w/ the cuurrent mix or does he make a move now? and what kind of move? a vet like boyle or a younger type that would likely cost an asset like B schenn?

i say move now, because a failing d in-season puts a GM in an even greater negotiation disadvantage and i would definately say go with the younger plyr given the makeup of the team...even if the cost is greater. its not like the FA options are going to be so great going forward.

Good luck convincing yourself Brygalov can join Thomas, Quick, and Lundqvist as a goalies that "can turn it around" and become a playoff goalies.

You make a good case except all those goalies had a good defensive group in front of them. The Flyers defense is average and Bryzgalov is not going to make up for that fact. As far as Brygalov's so streak, what is his gaa and sv % in the playoffs compared to Thomas, Quick, and Lundqvist?

The question you should be asking is what will his GAA and sv% be in the future in the playoffs. Because that is what is really going to matter.

The defense is average at best. You have an all star on it this season? How many other teams will? It's not a slight to the flyers. It's recognizing other talent in the league.

You may use having an All Star as a barometer for measuring the defense, but I don't. I disagree that they are average. They still have a solid top 4.
